This is 100% Sangiovese. Ruby in color, purple at the core, shimmering bright and mostly clear. The nose is very nice with cherries, sandalwood, tea, and spice. Medium bodied. Firm tannins. Moderate acidity. Nice black cherry fruit on the palate with some spice and slight char. Good finish. This is nice on its own but would be better with food. A nice wine to accompany pasta with a red sauce. Drink over the next ten to twelve years.
Great showing for this wine. A solid vintage and a very good producer really combined for a success. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, slight black cherries, anise, and slight tea leaves. Full bodied. Ripe cherries on the palate with underlying forest floor. Light tannins. Lots of depth and complexity. Also, delicious. Great acidity. Long finish. Great value for a wine of this quality. This is not yet at peak, maybe another 3 to 5 years, and then should dirnk well for ten to fifteen after that. A great match for pasta bolognaise.
One of my go to Chianti's. Truly a consistently great value. 2016 is another great vintage in Chianti in general and for this wine. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries, slight black cherries, tea leaves and just a bit of fennel. On the palate, this is medium bodied. A nice backbone of acidity. Concentration and depth that will undoubtedly unwind into layers as it ages. Right now lots of cherries on the palate. This drinks well on its own but really is better with food. Of course, pizza and pasta with tomato sauce but almost any meat or fowl or vegetable dish will work. D
Gran Selezione is the top level of Chianti wines. This vintage, 2015, was an excellent vintage in Chianti. And, this wine meets the high expectations those factors create. Purple in color, with ruby swirls. The nose is interesting with black cherries, cherries, saw dust and a strong streak of black olives. Great acidity. Firm tannins. Nice texture. On the palate, this is complex and deep while also delicious. Black cherries, some cherries with slight tea leaves and char. Long finish. Still young, this should get better but drinking nicely now. A nice, Chianti, this is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, black cherries, forest floor and some anise. Medium bodied. Nice acidity. On the palate, cherries and black cherries. Moderate finish. This is drinking well now and should continue for the next five to eight years. It works better with food, pasta with meatballs or mushrooms would be a nice choice.
It was interesting trying this along side a bunch of Chianti Classico Riservas including this winery's 2019. While both were good, I preferred the 2019 CCR. And, its half the price. This is inky purple in color with slight ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose comes across very "Bordeaux" like. Aromas of black cherries, cigar box, fresh tobacco and spice. Light to medium bodied. Good acidity. Light tannins. On the palate, cherries, sour cherries and slight forest floor. Good finish.
